Sanju Samson was at his very best in India’s third and final T20I against Bangladesh on Saturday, October 12 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The right-handed batter scored 111 runs off 47 balls with the help of 11 fours and eight sixes. He also smashed the second-fastest hundred by an Indian in T20Is off a mere 40 balls.

Samson had also broken Rohit Sharma’s record for the fastest fifty by an Indian batter in T20Is against Bangladesh off 23 balls. Samson did not have the best of outings in the first two matches in Gwalior and Delhi, but he made amends in Hyderabad. Opening the batting, the 29-year-old Samson gave an account of what he is capable of.

Abhishek Sharma departed early, but Samson did not stop playing his shots. He put on 173 runs for the second wicket with Suryakumar Yadav to put India in a position of command. Suryakumar got out on 75, but Samson did not miss out on scoring his maiden T20I hundred.

Samson eventually got out to Mustafizur Rahman, but India went on to make a huge score of 297 for the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs. After Samson and Suryakumar departed in quick succession, Hardik Pandya and Riyan Parag used the long handle to good effect.

Hardik looked ferocious after he hammered 47 runs off 18 balls with four fours and as many sixes. Parag did not die wondering as raced his way to scoring 34 runs off 13 deliveries before Taskin Ahmed dismissed him.

As far as Samson is concerned, Samson has scored 594 runs from 33 matches at an average of 22.84. Fans, in the meantime, heaped praise on the batter for playing a sparkling knock. They lauded him for proving a point when his position in the team was under the scanner.
