  • South Africa and Bangladesh will play the first Test from October 21
  • Bangladesh do not have Shakib Al Hasan in their squad
  • South Africa will miss the services of Temba Bavuma

South Africa and Bangladesh are all set to lock horns in the opening Test of the two-match series on Monday, October 21. The Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur will host the contest.

The Tigers, led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, do not have Shakib Al Hasan in their ranks after the all-rounder pulled out of the Test. Shakib did not return to Bangladesh due to the political tensions in the country, after which Hasan Murad replaced him in the squad.

The Mirpur Test was supposed to be Shakib’s last appearance in the purest format. Bangladesh had won the Test series against Shan Masood’s Pakistan 2-0, but then slumped to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Rohit Sharma’s India.

South Africa, in the meantime, would not have the services of Temba Bavuma in their team for the Test match. Bavuma was ruled out of the game due to muscle strain on his left triceps. In his absence, it is Aiden Markram, who will lead the Proteas.

With Bavuma injured, South Africa called up dashing right-handed batter Dewald Brevis, who has been a sensation, especially in limited-overs cricket.
