India Today Digital's review of the film read, “Director TJ Gnanavel's Vettaiyan has its heart in the right place - it highlights one of the important topics that are relevant in today's world. As Big B says in the film, 'encounter is never a solution'. It takes a gross misjudgement for Athiyan to realise it.”
