A terrorist was gunned down by security personnel on Sunday amid an ongoing encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua. However, a police personnel who killed the terrorist was fatally shot in an exchange of fire. A few other security personnel sustained injuries in the operation and are being treated.

Senior police officials are on the spot and are investigating the matter. A search operation for other terrorists is currently underway.

Contact was established after the police were informed about the presence of terrorists in Kathua's Mandli on September 28, leading to an exchange of gunfire between the terrorists and security personnel.

"The information was that three-four terrorists are present in this area. Search operations are underway. The information is that these are foreign terrorists, more details will come out after search operations," a top police official said.
