Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar highlighted Ravindra Jadeja’s remarkable statistics against left-handers and said India captain Rohit Sharma needs to take a look at the numbers. Manjrekar shared a post on his X account mentioning Jadeja’s numbers against former England batter Alastair Cook during the 2016 series between India and England.

The former India batter mentioned how Jadeja dismissed Cook six times during the series and stated that Rohit should bring him into the attack early against left-handed batters.

“Rohit needs to be shown this stat- JADEJA vs COOK, 2016 series: In 8 inngs, got him out 6 times, conceded just 75 runs. Rohit tends to not bowl Jadeja early when there are left landers out there,” wrote Manjrekar on his X account.

Notably, Jadeja has dismissed Cook seven times in his career from 11 matches. In total, he has 102 dismissals against left-handed batters at an average of 24.17 as opposed to 197 dismissals against right-handed batters at an average of 20.81. In the recent first Test against Bangladesh, he picked five wickets across two innings and also played a crucial 86-run knock in the first innings.

Jadeja's rise as a Test batter

He got involved in a massive 199-run stand with Ashwin as the duo helped India recover from 144/6 and score 376 in the first innings. India went on to win the match by 280 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Jadeja has also been on a rapid rise as a batter as well in the past few years as he’s India’s fifth highest run scorer in Test cricket since 2019 having scored 1718 runs to his name from 47 innings at an average of 42.95 with three hundreds and 12 fifties to his name.

He’s ahead of batters Shubman Gill (1611, 48 innings) and Ajinkya Rahane (1607, 50 innings) in the list who’ve both played more innings than him. Meanwhile, Jadeja will be eager to continue his good form as India are set to face New Zealand in a three-match Test series in October followed by the all-important Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia beginning from November 22.
