In Short

  • Sanju Samson hit his maiden T20I hundred in just 40 balls
  • He became the first man to hit a T20I hundred against Bangladesh
  • Samson repaid the faith the team management had shown in him

Sanju Samson repaid the faith the team management had shown in him by smashing India's highest individual score against Bangladesh in a T20I match. After failing to convert his starts into big knocks in the first two games of the series, Samson stepped up in style in the series finale in Hyderabad on Saturday, October 12. Samson became the first Indian batter to hit a T20I hundred against Bangladesh, getting there in just 40 balls.

It was also the second-fastest hundred in T20I cricket by an Indian. Sanju Samson's tally of 40 deliveres is only behind Rohit Sharma's record of 35 ball-hundred -- which came in a home game against Sri Lanka in 2017 in Indore. Samson went past Rohit Sharma's 89, which was the previous best by an Indian batter against Bangladesh in the shortest format of the game.

India vs Bangladesh, 3rd T20I Updates

Sanju Samson looked determined from the word go after India won the toss and opted to bat on Saturday. He had hit 9 boundaries and eight sixes by the time he reached the three-figure mark for the first time in his T20I career.

Samson looked thrilled as he removed his helmet and soaked in the applause from the crowd. The Rajasthan Royals captain shared a warm embrace with his captain Suryakumar Yadav, who was on the non-striker's end after having smashed a 23-ball fifty.

FASTEST HUNDREDS IN T20Is (FOR INDIA)

1. Rohit Sharma - 35 balls vs Sri Lanka in Indore in 2017

2. Sanju Samson - 40 balls vs Bangladesh in Hyderabad in 2024

3. KL Rahul - 46 balls vs West Indies in Lauderhill in 2016

4. Abhishek Sharma - 46 balls vs Zimbabwe in Harare in 2024

Samson got to his fifty in just 22 balls to become the fastest half-centurion for India in T20Is against Bangladesh. He began his knock, smashing fast bowler Taskin Ahmed to four boundaries in the second over. And the carnage never stopped even as India lost young opener Abhishek Sharma early.

Samson went berserk in the 10th over the contest when he hammered leg-spinner Rishad Hossain for five successive sixes in a space of six deliveries. Samson went all guns blazing against the leg-spinner, flaunting his range and power in the 30-run over.

Samson played several eye-catching shots to thrill the Hyderabad crowd. The backfoot punch to a six over the cover region against Mustafizur Rahman in the 8th over left on-air commentator Ravi Shastri in awe.

Samson and Suryakumar Yadav added 173 runs in 70 deliveries for the second-wicket partnership as they stunned the Bangladesh bowlers in the dead-rubber contest.

Samson was at his imperious best while Suryakumar continued to be lethal with the bat as India raced past 200 in the 15th over.
