Actor and former MP Mithun Chakraborty will be honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke award. Director Vivek Agnihotri, who has worked with Chakraborty in multiple films, called him one of the best actors the country has ever produced and expressed his happiness at the news.

Speaking to India Today Digital, the filmmaker shared, "Mithun da is one of the best actors India has produced, not only because of his performances, but also because his understanding of cinema. I wasn't lucky enough to work with him in his younger days when he was ruling the single screen. He was the biggest star at the single-screen box office."

"I started working with him when this industry had almost forgotten him. Bollywood believes that if you are old, you have nothing to do in the cinema. That's when I brought him to my trilogy and told him he had to become the soul of these films. We did the Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files, and I am working with him now on the next part, The Delhi Files," Agnihotri added.

Calling him grounded and wishing for his good health, Vivek shared that Chakraborty has much more to offer to the world of cinema and stated, "I just spoke to him early in the morning as I had gotten to know about it before it became public. I spoke to him, wished him. He has so much left in him to perform, so many characters he can do which I believe no one else can do. He has more wisdom and experience and, at the same time, he is such a sorted man. He is not the typical showbusiness person. He lives alone, in nature, and loves animals. I really wish him all the luck, happiness and good health. May Dada live for more than 100 years."

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had earlier shared the news on X. He wrote, "Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema (sic)."

On the work front, Mithun Chakraborty was last seen in the Bengali film, Kabuliwala.
