Sanju Samson was at his ruthless best on Saturday, October 12, hitting his maiden T20I hundred. Samson broke a series of records, propelling India to the highest T20I total by a Test-playing team -- 297. Samson was more relieved than delighted after having made it count in the last match of the T20I series against Bangladesh.

Samson's emotional celebration after reaching the milestone with a 40-ball century at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad was widely shared on social media. The Kerala superstar appeared momentarily speechless, lost in emotion after hitting a boundary in the 13th over to bring up his hundred. It took him a few seconds to process his achievement before a smile broke across his face.

Samson then embraced his captain, Suryakumar Yadav, who stood at the non-striker's end. The skipper offered a supportive pat on the back and whispered a few encouraging words to the newly crowned centurion.

After removing his helmet, Samson acknowledged the applause from the Hyderabad crowd with a beaming smile. Meanwhile, the Indian dressing room erupted in a standing ovation, celebrating his remarkable achievement.

Samson hit 8 sixes and 11 boundaries for his 47-ball 111. Samson was under pressure leading into the third T20I after having failed to convert his starts into big knocks in the first two T20Is of the series. However, on Saturday, he looked like a man on a mission right from the word go.

After hitting Taskin Ahmed for four boundaries in the second over, he left the crowd in awe with a sensational backfoot punch that sailed over the cover boundary against Mustafizur Rahman.

In the 10th over the contest, Samson went after leg-spinner Rishad Hossain, hitting him for five sixes in successive deliveries. Samson got to his fifty in just 22 balls and needed just 18 deliveries to complete the next fifty.

Samson became the first Indian wicketkeeper to hit a hundred in T20I cricket, going past Ishan Kishan's 89 which came in 2022 against Sri Lanka in Lucknow. He also hit the second-fastest hundred by an Indian batter in T20I cricket, next only to Rohit Sharma's 35 against Sri Lanka in Indore in 2017.

Samson and Suryakumar Yadav (75) stitched a 173-run stand in just 70 balls as India posted the 297, the second-highest total in the history of T20I cricket.
