Hurricane Milton struck Siesta Key on Florida's central west coast on Wednesday night, arriving as a powerful Category 3 storm.

Siesta Key, a barrier island located just south of Sarasota, faced the brunt of Milton's 193 kmph sustained winds at landfall, although the storm lost strength as it traveled further inland.

Residents in the Tampa and St. Petersburg areas were urged to shelter immediately, as “extremely dangerous hurricane-force winds” swept through the region.
