The second-year MBBS student was found dead at a private medical college under suspicious conditions in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur district on Sunday, the police said. Authorities are probing whether the case is one of suicide or involves foul play.

The student, identified as Kushagra Pratap Singh, was found lying in a pool of blood outside his hostel room early in the morning, according to the police.

Kushagra, a native of Gorakhpur, was studying at the private medical college, located near Bareilly Road.

“We received information about the body of a second-year student found at the medical college,” said Rajesh Yash, the Superintendent of Police.

"Upon inspection, it was observed that the student’s room was on the ground floor, and there was no one else present in that area. It appears that the student either fell to his death from third floor or was pushed by someone. We are investigating whether this was a case of suicide or foul play," he said.

Authorities have sealed the room where Kushagra had been staying and are questioning fellow students as part of their investigation.

The police have also begun reviewing CCTV footage from the area and speaking with local residents to gather more details.

The discovery of Kushagra's body has shocked other students of the medical college. "This is terrifying. We don’t know what happened, but it’s very unsettling to think that something like this could happen right here," one of the students said.

Kushagra's family in Gorakhpur has been informed of the incident, and his body has been sent for postmortem examination, police said.

"We are doing everything we can to get to the bottom of this," SP Yash said.
