Superstar Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan is facing a roadblock after a complainant from Madurai filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the film. He called for an interim ban on the film over the use of dialogues supporting illegal encounters. Palanivelu from Madurai's Ulaganeri filed the petition, which was heard in the Madurai High Court on Thursday, October 3.

The prevue of Vettaiyan was released on social media on September 20 ahead of the film's release. The petitioner mentioned that the promo featured a dialogue about an encounter, which could create a mindset among the public about the acceptance of illegal encounters.

He asked for the makers to either delete or mute the dialogues about such encounters in Vettaiyan. The petition was heard by Justice Subramanian and Justice Victoria Gowri.

The judges, who heard the case, ordered notices to be sent to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and Lyca Productions [the production house] regarding the matter. They refused to impose an interim ban against the film, Vettaiyan.

The case has been adjourned and will be heard later based on the responses from the CBFC and Lyca Productions.
