Encounter breaks out between security forces, terrorists in J&K's Rajouri

An encounter broke out between the security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Sunday evening.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint search operation was launched by the security forces at Manial Gali area in Rajouri's Thanamandi.

There was an exchange of fire between the security forces and terrorists. The area has been cordoned off.

Earlier in the day, a terrorist was killed in a remote village of Kathua district.

The body of an unidentified terrorist, suspected to be affiliated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), was recovered from the scene of the Saturday evening encounter at Kog-Mandli in Billawar tehsil.

A grenade launcher, some grenades and other materials were recovered from the possession of the slain terrorist.

Head Constable Bashir Ahmad laid down his life and two officers – Deputy Superintendent of Police (Operations) and Sukhbir Singh and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Niaz Ahmad – were injured when terrorists attacked a joint security search party on Saturday evening.
