Kamala Harris Accepts CNN’s Debate Invite, But Trump Says ‘It’s Just Too Late’

Kamala Harris has accepted CNN’s invitation for a second presidential debate against Donald Trump next month. Trump, however, said in rally remarks Saturday that “it’s too late” for another debate against the vice president.

On Saturday, CNN reported that Harris agreed to the October 23 debate just weeks before Election Day, with the vice president adding on social media that she “will gladly accept a second presidential debate” and hoped Trump would participate.

“Vice President Harris is ready for another opportunity to share a stage with Donald Trump,” campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon added in a statement. “Donald Trump should have no problem agreeing to this debate.”

However, at a campaign event Saturday in Wilmington, North Carolina, Trump told rally goers that he found out about the debate invitation when his plane landed that day, and that he likely wouldn’t accept the offer.

“The problem with another debate is that it’s just too late. Voting has already started,” Trump said. She’s had her chance to do it with Fox; you know Fox invited us on, I waited and waited, [Harris’ campaign] turned it down. But now she wants to do a debate with CNN before the election because she’s losing badly.”

The former president also expressed concern about returning to CNN. “I’ve already done two: One with Crooked Joe Biden at CNN, and the other one with Kamala on ABC. CNN was very fair, I thought. Joe was driven out of the race — it was a coup by the way — but Joe was driven out of the race. And [CNN] was widely criticized by the radical left lunatics for all of the fairness,” Trump added. “In other words, they won’t be fair again.”

Trump then praised his performance in his one debate against Harris, saying he did a “great job” despite it being “three-on-one,” alluding to the moderators.

“Both Vice President Harris and former President Trump received an invitation to participate in a CNN debate this fall as we believe the American people would benefit from a second debate between the two candidates for President of the United States,” CNN said in a statement Saturday. “We look forward to receiving a response from both campaigns so the American public can hear more from these candidates as they make their final decision.”
