Diwali (Deepavali) 2024 LIVE Updates: In a spectacular show of festivities, Ayodhya marked the 8th edition of Deepotsav today with over 25 lakh earthen lamps lit and 1,121 people performing aarti, thus setting two new Guinness World Records on the eve of Diwali. With securities in place, ministers on attendance, the temple town decked up in its full glory as it celebrated Deepotsav for the first time after the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple, held in January this year.

Diwali 2024: Date, puja timings, history, and significance

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led the celebrations at Ayodhya as he, along with his cabinet members, lit the first few lamps to mark the launch of the Deepotsav. The event was marked by performances by artistes from six countries — Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Indonesia — along with a Ram Leela presentation from Uttarakhand.

While festivities and celebrations are underway, people in Delhi continued to reel under air pollution. Regarding the measures taken to tackle air pollution, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai told PTI, ""Our only effort is to control the reasons that contribute to pollution. Firecrackers create a lot of soke, which affects the health of senior citizens and children. We have put a ban on firecracker, we have also requested the neighbouring state for cooperation. We met with police officials yesterday, they have made 300 teams, revenue department made 77 teams, we requested these teams to create awareness with RWAs, market associations, religious and social organisations. We can lit diyas, but we should refrain from firecrackers."

Diwali 2024 LIVE Updates: Ram Temple in Ayodhya all decked up for Deepotsav

The Ram Temple in Ayodhya is all decked up for Deepotsav today. This will be the first Deepotsav celebration in Ayodhya after the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple, held in January this year and the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government plans to illuminate the city with 28 lakh earthern lamps in a bid to create a new world record.

Along with UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, about 1,100 people will perform a “special aarti” on the banks of the river Saryu. For Deepotsav, there will be performances by artistes from six countries — Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Indonesia — along with a Ram Leela presentation from Uttarakhand. Stringent security measures are in place for the festivities.
