Baba Siddique Murder News Live Updates: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and three-time MLA Baba Siddique who was shot dead late Saturday will receive a state funeral on Sunday night. Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde ordered for it as he has served as a minister in the Maharashtra Cabinet from 2004 to 2008. Meanwhile, the Mumbai police have confirmed the involvement of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in Siddique’s killing. Despite Y-level category security, he was shot dead by three assailants — two of whom have been detained and will be produced in Mumbai’s Killa court today — ahead of the Assembly elections which are expected to be held in November.

Political storm in Maharashtra: Condemning the incident, leaders across Opposition parties, including the Congress, have sought accountability from the Shinde-led government for “growing criminal activities” in the state. Many leaders, including Sharad Pawar, have demanded the resignation of Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police have identified and detained two individuals — one from Haryana and the other from Uttar Pradesh — in connection with the incident so far. While the third person is said to be absconding, the case has been handed over to the Mumbai crime branch.

Where did the shooting occur? The incident took place as Siddique was leaving his son, MLA Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Bandra East and was entering his car.  According to the police, the assailants fired around six to seven rounds at him of which two bullets hit him in the chest, and one hit him in the abdomen.  He sustained multiple serious injuries and was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he was pronounced dead during treatment. Siddique was elected as a Congress MLA thrice and represented the Bandra West constituency from 1999 until 2014

In an interview with news agency PTI, the mothers of accused Shiv Kumar and Dharamraj spoke about the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique.

"He used to work in Pune, he had not come home after Holi. I got the information in the morning. I did not have a talk with him in the last 8-9 days. I don't have information where he is right now," says the mother of accused Shiv Kumar.

"I don't have any idea about the incident. He had gone there two months back. I got the knowledge of the incident from the police. He was my youngest son," says the mother of Dharamraj.

Mumbai police has reacted to several reports of an alleged Facebook post in which the Lawrence Bishnoi gang is said to have claimed responsibility of Baba Siddique's killing.

"We have seen the viral social media post. Verifying authenticity and context," Special Commissioner Deven Bharti told The Indian Express.

We also couldn't independently verify the post which cannot be traced on the platform any longer.

Earlier this morning, the police confirmed the involvement of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in the killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique.

Baba Siddique hailing from Bihar began his political journey through student politics.

He joined the Indian National Congress as a teenager in 1977 and became the general secretary of the Bandra Taluka Youth Congress in 1980. Within two years, he was elected its president.

By 1988, he had risen to the position of president of the Mumbai Youth Congress and was elected as a councillor in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in 1992.

Through instrumental and powerful connections, he managed to secure an MLA ticket in 1999 from Bandra West, which he successfully won, retaining the seat for three consecutive terms.

A day after Baba Siddique was shot dead in Mumbai's Bandra East, the involvement of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's gang has been confirmed by the police on Sunday.

Bishnoi currently in Sabarmati jail in Gujarat belongs to the Bishnoi community which is settled in Punjab, Haryana and many parts of Rajasthan. He is the son of a well-off agriculturist in Duttaranwali village in Abohar sub-division of Punjab's Fazilka district

He studied till class 12th at Abohar and later shifted to Chandigarh in 2010 to pursue college education.

He has been facing two dozen cases of murders, attempt to murders, extortion etc. He is believed to operate his gang from inside the jail.

In November, 2019, when Bishnoi was brought to Chandigarh on production warrants for his interrogation in the murder of Rajveer, alias Sonu Shah, a criminal-turned-property dealer, there was evidence that he was using a cell phone inside Bharatpur jail for running his activities.

Member of Legislative Council (MLC) of NCP -- a key constituent of BJP-led Mahayuti in Maharashtra -- Amol Mitkari has said the home department and Mumbai police's failure are responsible for former minister Baba Siddique's killing. He claimed that they knew of the "threat" to his life.

"The home department was informed about threat to Baba Siddique's life. Despite all this information the home department and Mumbai police failed to take appropriate action," he said.

Two of the three accused assailants have been detained by the Mumbai police so far with five teams being sent to other states to find others involved.

Now, news agency PTI has quoted police sources as saying that a team from the Special Cell of the Delhi Police is set to be dispatched to Mumbai to assist in the investigation of the killing.

"A team comprising four to five members from the Special Cell will go to Mumbai to investigate and assist the Mumbai Police. The team will look into the gangster angle," said the source to PTI. The shooting on Saturday night took place exactly six months after shots were fired at the house of Salman Khan, a close friend of Siddiquie. The two incidents occurred in the same suburb of Bandra.

On April 14 morning, four rounds were fired outside the actor’s Bandra residence. The crime branch later arrested six people from different states. According to the probe by the crime branch, the attack was carried out at the behest of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi who had threatened actor Salman Khan in the past as well.

NCP Leader Baba Siddique Shot Dead Live: Body shifted to Mumbai's Cooper Hospital for postmortem

The latest development early this morning is that the Mumbai Police have shifted the body of NCP leader Baba Siddique who was shot dead in Bandra East on Saturday night, from Lilavati Hospital to Cooper Hospital. Here doctors are expected to conduct the post-mortem examination.

Where did the shooting occur?

On Saturday night, six to seven rounds were fired at Siddique as he was leaving his son, MLA Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Bandra East and was entering his car. According to the police, two bullets hit him in the chest, and one hit him in the abdomen.  He sustained multiple serious injuries and was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he was pronounced dead during treatment.

Two of the three assailants have been detained and are being questioned by the Mumbai Crime Branch which took over the probe from the police late last night. The third person is said to be absconding
