Delhi News Live Updates: Delhi Chief Minister Atishi was stopped by police outside the Bawana Police Station while trying to meet detained climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, the Aam Aadmi Party has said. Wangchuk was detained on Monday night with his supporters during his march to Delhi from Ladakh. Atishi arrived around 1 PM, but police officers prevented her from entering. There is a significant police presence around the station, which is located on the Delhi-Haryana border, PTI reported. Wangchuk and about 120 supporters were marching to Delhi to demand a sixth schedule status for their Union Territory. Their march, called ‘Delhi Chalo Padyatra,’ started from Leh a month ago.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Jal Board on Monday announced that residents in several areas will experience disruptions in water supply due to major repair work in the city. The affected areas include Varun Niketan, Raja Garden, Ramesh Nagar, Khyala (Command area of Khyala BPS, PH-I), Rani Bagh, Moti Nagar, Sharda Puri, Tagore Garden, Tihar Village, Tilak Nagar, Rajouri Garden, Hari Nagar and adjoining areas, Vishnu Garden, Subhash Nagar, J.J. In other news, the Delhi Police Commissioner has issued an official order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), imposing prohibitory measures for the next six days. This includes a ban on protests, carrying firearms, and gatherings of five or more people, due to ongoing communal tensions due to the Waqf Amendment Bill, the Shahi Idgah issue in Sadar Bazar, and the charged atmosphere due to the MCD standing committee elections.

Delhi CM Atishi to meet Sonam Wangchuk, detained Ladakh protesters

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi is set to meet activist Sonam Wangchuk and other detained protesters from Ladakh at Bawana police station, criticizing their detention as a "dictatorship." Atishi expressed that it’s unjust for Ladakhis to be stopped from peacefully protesting and attempting to visit Gandhi Samadhi on October 2.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also condemned the police action, arguing that everyone has the right to come to Delhi. Sisodia pointed out the government's focus on controlling peaceful protestors rather than addressing real issues like crime.

Ladakh MP Haji Hanifa Jan voiced concern over the government's handling of Ladakhi issues and called for a platform to submit their demands to Prime Minister Modi. Wangchuk and his supporters were marching from Leh to New Delhi to demand that Ladakh be included in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, which would provide local law-making powers to protect their land and culture. They were detained under Section 163 of the BNS at the Singhu border on Monday night. (ANI)
