Strictly Come Dancing’s Katya Jones took a very public swipe at her dance partner Wynne Evans after the ongoing “grope” drama.

The relationship between the couple was put under the spotlight this week after two awkward incidents that were caught on camera during the live show last Saturday, and left fans concerned for Katya’s welfare. Since then, the pair have worked hard to persuade their followers and Strictly fans that they are good friends, and the 52-year-old Welshman posted a clip of him carrying Katya up a mountain ahead of training.

“I’ve got to carry her up a mountain as she’s brought these ridiculous London shoes. Do you know where we’re going?” Wynne asked, as Katya replied: “To get a bacon roll!” The professional dancer quickly commented on the video with a barbed joke, saying: "Only fair, since I’ve been carrying you around the dance floor all week!!"

Some fans were taken aback, however others stated that it proved the duo had a good friendship.

However, some of his followers claimed the video was 'staged'(Image: Instagram)

"Love you both, keep strong and ignore all that other nonsense," one follower wrote, as another agreed: "Amazing to see you both having fun …I’ve hated the news lately! It’s a load of made up codswallop." One follower pleaded with the online trolls to keep away from Wynne’s social media pages as they claimed it was "affecting everyone else". They fumed: "Wynne and Katya seem to enjoy each other's friendship and the only people who were affected by this hyped up story were Wynne and Katya. Sick of all you dramatic people wanting attention. Done, dusted and all over now!!"

Some of Wynne’s followers were quick to analyse the chemistry between the duo in the clip, as many alleged that Katya was only pretending to like her dance partner. “People are easily fooled, she’s hating every second of this,” one speculated, as another added: “Don't buy it. Sorry.” There has been an intense focus on Wynne and Katya’s relationship after a scandal engulfed the couple following last weekend’s Strictly shows.

Last Saturday, the Go Compare advert star was seen moving his hand across Katya’s waist, which prompted the dancer to forcibly remove his hand. In another uncomfortable scene, Wynne attempted to give his partner a high five, but Katya shot him a scathing look as she snubbed him. Viewers were left concerned over the incidents, and the couple were forced to issue grovelling statements on social media, insisting that they were good friends.

Wynne spoke on his BBC Radio Wales show on Monday, and tearfully explained that the waist grab and high-five snub were all part of a big "inside joke" between him and Katya, and was "heartbroken" that the reaction had negatively impacted his time on Strictly. "I'm absolutely heartbroken by the things that have been written about me in the last day," the opera singer shared. "It's not nice to live in that time, but basically Katya and I are really, really close and we're really good friends, and on Saturday night we made a stupid joke."

He said the joke "went wrong" but he and Katya "thought it was funny". He added: "It wasn't funny. It has been totally misinterpreted. Everything's on Katya's socials. She's talked about it. She's explained that it was a joke. She wasn't offended in the least. She doesn't feel uncomfortable." Wynne was emotional as he said he didn’t know why he was apologising, "because I feel like I've not really done anything."
