Ruud van Nistelrooy names first Man Utd XI with four changes from Erik ten Hag's final team
by Mark Jones · Irish MirrorRuud van Nistelrooy has named his first starting XI as Manchester United manager for his side's Carabao Cup fourth round with Leicester at Old Trafford.
Club legend Van Nistelrooy is in temporary charge of the Red Devils following the sacking of Erik ten Hag on Monday, and has made sweeping changes to his side for the clash against the Foxes.
His XI is: Bayindir; Dalot, De Ligt, Lindelof, Martinez; Casemiro, Ugarte, Fernandes; Rashford, Zirkzee, Garnacho.
The side shows four changes to Ten Hag's final team in the defeat against West Ham, with goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, defender Victor Lindelof, midfielder Manuel Ugarte and forward Joshua Zirkzee coming into the side for Andre Onana, Noussair Mazraoui, Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund.
Discussing his selection, Van Nistelrooy said: "I take great pride in that I can bring the club forward, even in a short period of time. We want to get a lot of the ball, attack and try to give the fans a good night." On the selection of Zirkzee, he added: "Josh, his last two games he got two assists and he can build on his qualities and on those performances."
Van Nistelrooy is expected to take charge of Sunday's Premier League game against Chelsea having been confirmed to be undertaking pre-match media duties, with the appointment of Ruben Amorim delayed.
Writing in the programme notes for this evening's game, Van Nistelrooy said: "I am writing these notes with a huge amount of mixed emotions.
"Erik ten Hag brought me back to Manchester United in the summer and, while I have only been part of the coaching staff here for a few months, I will always be grateful to him for giving me the opportunity. I am saddened to see him leave.
"Even on an interim basis, it is a great honour to manage the club I love for however long I am asked to do so. I can promise that I will continue to give my all, in whatever capacity, to try to turn around our fortunes."
Leicester City's XI for the fourth round clash is: Ward; Justin, Coady, Okoli, Thomas; El Khannouss, Skipp, Soumare; McAteer, De Cordova-Reid, Ayew.
