Trent Alexander-Arnold is NOT attempting to buy French club Nantes despite reports of a €100m bid.

Reports in France had claimed that the Liverpool defender was part of a group attempting to take over the Ligue 1 club. It was suggested that Alexander-Arnold, 25, was at the forefront of a bid alongside his father to buy the club from Polish businessman Waldemar Kita.

It was suggested that the bid accompanied a €80m straight offer for Nantes, plus a seller credit of €20m, as well as various bonuses of around €40m. It was also revealed that he was also interested in moves for their French rivals Saint-Etienne and Le Havre.

But it appears that there is little truth in the reports. According to the Liverpool Echo, sources close to Alexander-Arnold had confirmed that suggestions that the defender was preparing to buy the club were “not true at all”.

While it appears as though Alexander-Arnold will not be buying Nantes, the club could still be sold sooner rather than later. Current club president Waldemar Kita confirmed back in 2022 that he was open to offers.

But he was left far from convinced about a bid from the club’s former goalkeeper Mickael Landreau. As quoted by RMC, Kita said: “If someone feels as though they can carry the club financially and give reassurances, and that they are the best, I am open to it, no problem.

“I am open to all propositions but it has to be serious. You can’t sell or buy the club via the media. It’s not serious. Some things have gone too far. Mr. Landreau came to my office 7 years ago.

“He wanted to be delegate president of the club including my son [Franck, now delegate general director of Nantes]. I said no and 15 days later he was manager of Lorient. What did my son do wrong? He clearly has a higher level than these kinds of characters. Mr. Landreau, this isn’t serious.”

Nantes currently sit fifth in Ligue 1 after a positive start to the new campaign. They have two wins from their opening four matches and take on Angers away from home this weekend.

And while Alexander-Arnold will not be becoming a new owner of the club, he still faces a considerable decision over his future. The right-back is out of contract at the end of the season and would be eligible to leave Liverpool for free next summer.

Spanish giants Real Madrid are among the sides chasing his services. They have targeted him amid a push for Premier League stars next summer and are also interested in Rodri, William Saliba and Cristian Romero.
