Gardai to begin dig for missing boy Kyran Durnin amid fears he died two years ago

by Nicola Donnelly · Irish MirrorGardai are set to start a dig this week for missing eight year old Kyran Durnin, who is presumed dead, we can reveal. Investigators say they are making ‘steady progress’ in the investigation into the suspected murder Kyran.
It comes as vigils were held in both Drogheda and Dundalk, Co Louth at the weekend. Little Kyran was only reported missing from his home in Drogheda, Co Louth on August 30 by a family member.
However, gardai fear that Kyran, who has two younger siblings, died over two years ago when he was just six and believe he was last seen alive in May 2022.
And despite extensive enquiries officers have been unable to locate the young boy or identify evidence of his current whereabouts or if he is alive leading to a murder investigation being launched.

But this week, digs for the little boy’s remains are set to commence. Last Wednesday, gardai announced the murder investigation had commenced and is being led by a Senior Investigation Officer based out of an incident room established at Drogheda Garda Station.
Several people of interest have now been identified by investigators, sources say, but there have been no arrests made as yet. The priority at the moment, sources say, is to locate Kyran’s remains.
And sources have also said that ‘steady progress’ in the investigation is being made by the team of investigators based out of Drogheda Garda Station.
“The investigation has progressed from what was originally reported and continues to progress,” a source told this paper. “The investigation is being conducted methodically.”
On Sunday evening, heartbroken locals turned out on the steps of St Peter’s Church in Drogheda for a candle lit vigil for Kyran.
“The prayer vigil for Kyran allowed the community to come together to remember Kyran and raise awareness in the hope that someone will step forward with information that could help gardai locate Kyran,” one of the organisers said.
Meanwhile, in nearby Dundalk on Saturday evening, locals also gathered together to light candles and offered prayers for Kyran where a large billboard displayed photos of the little boy and spiderman cuddly toys and teddy bears were left at the shrine on Market Square.
Gardai have reiterated their appeal for anyone with any information on Kyran to come forward. They say any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, from members of the local community, neighbours, teachers and the public at large will be welcomed by the investigation team.
