Sir Elton John has opened up about his health struggles - saying that after multiple health issues, there's 'not much left' of him. The iconic singer had retired from touring just last year but then grappled with a tough summer due to a 'severe eye infection'.

At the 62nd New York Film Festival on Tuesday (October 1), where the premiere of his new documentary 'Elton John: Never Too Late' took place, the 77-year-old shared reflections on how his health battles have worn him down. "I don't have tonsils, adenoids or an appendix.

"I don't have a prostate," he told People Magazine. "I don't have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee.

"In fact, the only thing left to me is my left hip. But I’m still here."

The superstar also expressed gratitude toward his family, David Furnish, and their two boys, Zachary and Elijah, for filling his life with joy beyond measure, according to The Express. This heartfelt admission follows shortly after Elton disclosed last month that he had been battling with an eye infection, which resulted in 'limited vision in one eye'.

In an emotional Instagram update, the musician shared: "I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.

"I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks. I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far." He signed off: "With love and gratitude, Elton John."

At the time, messages of support and warmth flooded in for Elton from his fans and celebrity friends. Fashion queen Donatella Versace was among them, posting: "Sending you so much love Elton! Feel better soon. Love you."

Piling on the solidarity, Westlife's former star Brian McFadden sent a flurry of heart emojis, while country rocker T. J. Osbourne said: "Take your time and recover, Elton. We'll be here waiting for your return when you're healthy and ready ;)."
