Man Utd's Ruben Amorim statement in full as reasons for new appointment confirmed
by Jacob Leeks · Irish MirrorManchester United have hailed Ruben Amorim as one of the most exciting and highly-rated coaches in Europe as they confirmed his appointment as their next head coach.
Amorim quickly emerged as the top candidate to replace Erik ten Hag, who was sacked on Monday. Ten Hag paid the price for an awful start to the season, which has seen United win just four games in all competitions.
His replacement meanwhile is yet to lose a league game as Sporting Lisbon boss this campaign. They currently sit top of the Primeira Liga, having won the title last season.
United sent a delegation to Lisbon on Monday to begin talks with Sporting over activating Amorim's release clause. The Red Devils will pay £8.3million to bring the 39-year-old to Old Trafford, with the club now confirming he will become their head coach from 11 November,
" Manchester United is delighted to announce the appointment of Ruben Amorim as Head Coach of the men’s first team, subject to work visa requirements. He will join until June 2027 with a club option of an additional year, once he has fulfilled his obligations to his current club. He will join Manchester United on Monday 11 November," a club statement read.
"Ruben is one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football. Highly decorated as both a player and coach, his titles include winning the Primeira Liga twice in Portugal with Sporting CP; the first of which was the club’s first title in 19 years. Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue to take charge of the team until Ruben joins."
