Jeremy Clarkson admitted he didn't think he had long left to live before his secret heart surgery.

The Clarkson's Farm star, 64, revealed a "deteriorating" health condition left him in need of having a stent put in after experiencing difficulties using the stairs on a recent holiday.

After being rushed into theatre after doctors ruled out a heart attack, Jeremy was told he was "days away" from getting very ill, before having the stent, which works by improving blood flow to the heart.

Talking about the procedure, the father-of-three tried to make light of the situation as he admitted "wondering what water tastes like and if it's possible to make celery interesting" after his health scare. However, earlier this year, he was less upbeat as he reflected on his own mortality.

Speaking to the Guardian, he said: “I don’t have long. I’ve probably only got what, 70,000 hours left, maybe?” The candid comment came just months before Jeremy's heart surgery.

Writing in his Sunday Times column after the operation, he said: "It seems that of the arteries feeding my heart with nourishing blood, one was completely blocked and the second of three was heading that way." Talking about the procedure to have a stent fitted, Jeremy continued: "It wasn't especially painful. Just odd," adding that he has thought since: "Crikey, that was close."

Jeremy then joked he was" "wondering what water tastes like and if it's possible to make celery interesting" after his health scare. He already gave up smoking after he got pneumonia while on holiday in Spain.

After opening up on his medical ordeal, the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire host explained he had more worrying news to share as he took to Instagram, revealing that one of his dogs is currently "under the knife" after contracting pyometra - a serious and potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus.

Sharing a photo of his pet on Instagram, Jeremy wrote: "The poor thing is under the knife as we speak. She has pyometra. S**t week." Many fans shared their concern as they sent the presenter their best wishes. One wrote: "I'm really sorry, I hope she recovers." Another person added: "I hope next week goes well for you Jeremy, I feel your pain." Meanwhile, a third said: "I work in a veterinary surgery and be assured she will be getting the best care x fingers crossed she will be home soon and appreciate you all even more. Hope everything goes well and keep us posted."
