Ireland weather map shows date temperatures to plummet by 15C after 'Indian summer'

by · Irish Mirror

Ireland could see a dramatic drop in temperatures over the coming weeks, with weather maps predicting a plunge of 15C within just six days.

According to weather maps seen on Netweather.tv, the country is expected to enjoy an unusually mild Halloween, with daytime temperatures reaching 17C in places on October 31.

However, by November 6, the weather model indicates that a sudden cold front could arrive, bringing daytime temperatures down to just 2C in parts.

This comes as hopes for next week's 'Indian summer' grow, with Met Eireann promising "a good deal of dry weather with high pressure building". An ‘Indian summer’ refers to a spell of unusually warm, dry weather that occurs in autumn, providing a brief but welcome respite before winter sets in.

The national forecaster said next week will be "broadly settled" and "drier than normal", with "temperatures expected to be above average".

However looking further ahead into early November, long-range forecasts indicate a shift to more typical autumn conditions. Met Eireann is also monitoring this trend, and said of the week of November 4 to November 10: "Temperatures are signalled to be closer to average compared with week 1, perhaps indicating a higher instance of night-time frost. Broadly settled conditions seem likely to continue with some mist and fog also."

In the meantime, a weather warning has been issued for Co Donegal. The Status Yellow rain alert, in place from 2pm until 10pm on Sunday, warns there will be persistent and, at times, heavy rain bringing the risk of localised flooding.

While Donegal is the only county currently under an official warning, Met Eireann has also advised neighbouring counties in the west and northwest to also brace for significant rainfall and possible flooding.

Its nationwide forecast for today reads: "Turning cloudier as outbreaks of rain in the west become more widespread through the morning and afternoon, heaviest in the west and northwest with spot flooding in places. The rain will become lighter and patchier from most places in the evening. Highest afternoon temperatures of 8C to 13C with moderate to fresh south to southwest winds developing.

"Mild and cloudy overnight with further outbreaks of rain at times, easing towards morning. Temperatures will not fall below 10C to 13C with southwesterly winds decreasing light to moderate allowing mist and fog patches to develop."
