Bengaluru: Considering medical urgency, the Karnataka high court on Wednesday granted interim bail for six weeks to jailed actor Darshan Thoogudeepa in the Renukaswamy murder case.

Single-judge Justice S Vishwajith Shetty allowed the interim bail. Darshan had pleaded for bail to undergo a surgery.

Justice Shetty heard the detailed arguments from the actor’s legal representative, senior advocate CV Nagesh, and state public prosecutor P Prasanna Kumar.

During the hearing, the state presented medical reports in a sealed cover from doctors at Ballari Central Prison, where Darshan Thoogudeepa is currently lodged, and the head of the department of neurology at a government hospital in Ballarim, Hindustan Times reported.

Nagesh claimed that Darshan was witnessing numbness in both feet and thus sought permission for his surgery, which would be performed at a private hospital in Mysuru. The actor will bear the cost of surgery by himself.

Bangalore police had arrested the Kannada cine actor and his nine associates in connection with murder of a youth, Renukaswamy (33).

The deceased, an assistant in a medical shop at Chitadurga, had allegedly posted some offensive remarks against a female actor, Pavithra Gowda who was also arrested, on social media. The victim was allegedly tortured and killed at Darshan’s farmhouse in Mysuru. The body was found dead in a stormwater drain in Kamakshipalya.
