Anitta Gets a Body Horror Maternity Shoot in The Weeknd’s ‘São Paulo’ Music Video
by Bethy Squires · VULTUREMaster of Horror Abel Tesfaye is bringing the body horror right before Halloween. Should we have expected anything less? The Weeknd’s latest single off the still unreleased Hurry Up Tomorrow is “São Paulo,” featuring Anitta. The pair debuted the song in Anitta’s native Brazil in September — in São Paulo of all places, can you believe it? Now the song is streaming and the music video has come to stress us all out. In the video, directed by Freeka Tet, Anitta sports a baby bump. Okay, normal so far. The baby bump then grows a mouth approx where Anitta’s belly button should be, and it sings The Weeknd’s verses.
Anitta told Billboard Brazil about the collaboration process: “I wrote some verses as a joke and never imagined they would become serious. Suddenly, I received the finished song. I loved it! I felt very honored and flattered. I’ve always been a big fan of his and his work. I never imagined this would happen, and now it’s a dream come true. It’s a little more Brazilian funk, as promised, around the world.” Her dream come true is now our collective nightmare. Happy Halloween?
