German tactician, Thomas Tuchel has noted he aims to help England win the 2026 FIFA World Cup after sealing his appointment as the country’s third foreign coach.

Thomas Tuchel, 51, is expected to officially resume work as England’s head coach on January 1, 2025, and he is expected to remain in the position for 18 months.

Tuchel succeeds Gareth Southgate, who stepped down after eight years in charge following England’s defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

In his first press conference as the head coach of England earlier today, October 16, Tuchel shared his initial hesitancy about transitioning from club to international football but expressed his excitement about working with the “very special and exciting group of players” in the England squad.

In June, Tuchel had removed himself from consideration for the Manchester United coaching position, citing his meeting with Red Devils co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe in France.

When questioned about choosing England over United, Tuchel emphasized the swift and confidential nature of the job offer and stated that it was a decision made in favor of the England role.

Tuchel’s primary task is to lead England to the 2026 World Cup, where they aim to end a 60-year drought for a major trophy.

Earlier today, the German tactician affirmed his commitment to instilling values, principles, and rules to make the dream of World Cup success a reality for England, promising to approach the task with passion and emotion.

Thomas Tuchel said, “I think it is pretty obvious I am very emotional. I love what I am doing and am passionate about football.

“This role just brought the young me alive and brought back my teenage days, to get excited for such a big task.

“Everyone can be assured we will do it with passion and emotions. We will try to install values and principles and rules as quickly as possible to make the dream come true.”
