UK weather: Met Office snow forecast as 'colder air' moves in

by · DevonLive

Britain may see its first snowfall as early as next week, according to the Met Office. Forecasters predict "snow showers" in northern and eastern areas due to the arrival of colder air in many parts of the country at the start of November.

High pressure is expected to dominate, but its position and orientation later in November are uncertain, which will determine whether the UK remains in a cold air mass or if milder conditions return. With high pressure in place, many areas will experience chilly temperatures, overnight frost, and fog.

So it's time to dust off winter coats, as temperatures are expected to be below average overall. By mid-November, there are hints that high pressure may ease, allowing more unsettled weather to take hold.

This follows a spell of fine and sunny weather this weekend in much of England, Wales, and eastern Scotland. Tonight is expected to be chilly under clear skies.

As the early hours of Monday, October 28, approach, many areas will become "increasingly cloudy and breezy as rain spreads across most regions," with heavy rain over some western hills, according to reports by the Express.

The Met Office's forecast from Tuesday to Thursday suggests mostly cloudy conditions, "with fog possible overnight for some. Generally dry in the south, but rain spilling across northern regions later in the week. On the mild side."
