Red flood warnings issued in Devon ahead of Storm Ashley

There are five flood warnings and 26 flood alerts in place across Devon

The Environment Agency has issued five flood warnings and 26 flood alerts across Devon which coincides with the impending arrival of Storm Ashley in parts of the UK. Although the south west is not covered by the yellow weather warning, forecasters are warning of rain during the early part of Sunday.

The red flood warnings indicate flooding is expected with affected rivers in Devon including the River Axe, River Clyst and River Yarty. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind tomorrow, Sunday, October 20, from 3am until 11.59pm and covers Scotland, parts of the north-west of England, and the length of the west coast of Wales.

The weather front is expected to bring gusts of up to 80mph. Between 5am and 10am, there is predicted to be up to a 95 per cent chance of rain.

The weather forecast for the south west today is skies brightening through the morning with plenty of sunshine developing. Patchy cloud will arrive through the afternoon with sunny periods and perhaps the odd shower. It will feel mild in the sunshine with a light westerly breeze. The maximum temperature will be 16°C.

Tomorrow, October 20, there will be rain at times during the morning, perhaps heavy in places. It will turn drier and brighter throughout the day with the odd shower. It will also be windy with coastal gales at times, but will stay mild. The maximum temperature will be 17°C.
