Benefits set to rise after Budget as new Universal Credit, PIP and ESA rates issued
by Kieran Isgin · DevonLiveRachel Reeves has confirmed benefits and pensions will rise for claimants across the country. The Chancellor made the announcement as she delivered Labour's first Budget in nearly 15 years.
An increase of 1.7% has been brought in for benefits across the board, which is in line with the consumer price index (CPI) measure of inflation from September 2024. This means recipients of support such as Universal Credit will get higher payments from April 2025.
The Chancellor also said she was reaffirming the government's committment to the so-called triple lock on state pensions. That means state pension payments will rise by 4.1 per cent.
The Chancellor highlighted that the rise will benefit more than 12 million pensioners from next year. Ms Reeves said: “This commitment means that while working-age benefits will be uprated in line with CPI at 1.7%, the basic and new state pension will be uprated by 4.1% in 2025-26.
“This means that over 12 million pensioners will gain up to £470 next year.” She added: “The pension credit standard minimum guarantee will also rise by 4.1% from around £11,400 per year to around £11,850 for a single pensioner.”
