UK's Queen Camilla pulls out of engagements after falling ill with chest infection

In the UK, Queen Camilla has pulled out of her upcoming engagements due to illness.

The Queen is unwell with a chest infection, and in order to recover has withdrawn from her engagements this week.

Buckingham Palace has announced that the royal needs to rest, but is regretful to miss her royal duties over the coming days.

A palace spokesperson said that royal doctors "have advised a short period of rest" and said that "with great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week."

Camilla "very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend's Remembrance events as normal."

"She apologises to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result."

The Queen is currently under doctor's supervision as she rests at home.

The royal recently returned from a busy official overseas tour to Australia and Samoa.

Birgitte, the wife of Prince Richard, has stepped in to Camilla's place to attend the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on Thursday.

The news comes on the tail end of a difficult year of health news for the British royal family.

Buckingham Palace shared in February that King Charles had been diagnosed with cancer, which was detected after he underwent a procedure for a benign enlarged prostate in January.

He will return to a full programme of events next year.

Meanwhile, Catherine, Princess of Wales, was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

She's since undergone treatment and is now considered cancer free, and has made a few appearances in recent months as she works her way back to health.

In September she announced she had finished treatment, is cancer free, and would be slowly but surely returning to work responsibilities.
