A weather map has predicted the date of when the first snowfall will hit Ireland this November.

The month is normally very cold with bouts of frost and ice, however, this year it has been incredibly mild. Temperatures rose to 17 degrees in the past week.

Met Eireann shared that this won’t last the entire month as conditions will “drop below average” in the coming weeks.

Looking ahead, WX Charts, a weather forecasting website, spotted the first patch of snow that will arrive in Ireland.

Their latest weather models showed a small area along the east coast of Leinster getting snow on Tuesday, 19 November. At the same time, our neighbours in Scotland and Wales are also predicted to get snow.

It should be noted that weather forecasts and predictions exceeding 10 days are much less accurate.

Met Eireann also looked ahead and found that between Monday, 11 November to Sunday, 17 November, there are indications of high pressure centred to the northwest of the country dominating our weather.

They said: “This will bring further settled conditions with much drier than average rainfall across the country. Mean air temperatures look to be close to normal for the time of year.”

During the week of the predicted snow, between Monday, 18 November to Sunday, 24 November, there is a slight signal for high pressure to continue to dominate our weather.

Met.ie wrote: “There is little change indicated this week, with rainfall amount continuing to signal drier than average across the country.

“However, mean air temperatures look to drop below average in parts of east Munster and south Leinster, with all other areas likely to see normal temperatures for the time of year.”

As we move into the week starting Monday, 25 November, and ending on Sunday, 1 December, current indications suggest conditions will become slightly more unsettled.

The national forecaster shared: “There is a slight signal for lower pressure to dominate our weather this week. Precipitation amounts are signalling a return of above average rainfall amounts across the country.

“Mean air temperatures are indicating that they will be above normal for the time of year, especially over the southern half of the country.”

Finally, the start of December sees a slight signal for low pressure over the north coast.

Between Monday, 2 December to Sunday, 8 December, mean air temperatures are indicating that they will remain above normal again for the time of year.

Met Eireann added: “There is a signal for our weather to continue more unsettled with wetter than average conditions forecast across the country again this week.”
