IND vs BAN 2nd Test: The action on Day 1 of the India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test in Kanpur was cut short due to rain as stumps were forced early in the second session. No play was possible on the opening day after the first 35 overs with India bossing the proceedings.

The weather in Kanpur has not been very kind for cricket. The start of the game was also delayed by half an hour and the clouds continued to play hide and seek throughout the opening session. Sensing the conditions, India captain Rohit Sharma made a surprise call to bowl first and go with three seamers. The move looks to be paying well as India send Bangladesh to the stumps at 107/3 after 35 overs.

This was only the second instance of a team opting to bowl first in 24 Test matches in Kanpur with the only previous instance being the 1964 Test match against England. The pitch was damp and Rohit's call paid dividends early on as the pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep troubled the Bangladesh openers, Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan.

Akash was the first change bowler and got the wicket in his first over when he sent back the struggling Zakir for a 24-ball duck. Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto came to bat early at No.3 ahead of Mominul Haque.

But the Indian bowlers kept them in check, causing difficulties with their probing lines. In his third over, Akash got Shadman Islam LBW on a review after the umpires ruled him not out. The Indians went for the review and as it turned out, the ball was hitting the leg stump and the hosts were elated.

After being in hot waters at 29/2, the skipper came to the middle and fought alongside Mominil. They did good work to see off the remainder of the first session before Ravichandran Ashwin struck early in the second session, getting Shanto plumb in front with an in-drifter. The batting conditions were not the best on the opening day and Bangladesh are in trouble at the end of the day
