Woman's 55p hack to stop condensation forming on windows - and it's 'genius'

by · ChronicleLive

As the UK prepares for the onset of colder evenings and a dip in temperatures, many are confronting the annoyance of condensation within their homes.

Condensation occurs when warm air hits cooler surfaces or when the humidity levels inside are excessively high.

This moisture-laden air, upon contact with a cold surface, cools quickly and releases water in the process, leading to those irritating droplets that cloud up window panes. Not only is condensation unsightly, but it also presents real health issues with the growth of mould and dust mites, as highlighted by Envirovent.

Claire, an avid home enthusiast has captivated a whopping 174,000 followers on Instagram with her handle @forever_and_always_home. She has gained renown for her economical solution to combat condensation, becoming an online sensation.

A post shared by Claire showcases her cleaning advice and clever hacks to make interiors cosy. Yet, it's her method for eliminating condensation that truly sparked excitement on her account.

Through an engaging reel, Claire shares her secret as she opens her window blinds, accompanied by the text: "How to make condensation disappear! ", reports the Express.

Claire, an Instagram influencer, has shared a savvy tip for tackling the common household issue of window condensation as temperatures drop. She suggests dabbing dish soap onto a dry microfibre cloth and buffing the window panes to create a clear barrier against moisture.

In her latest post, she explains: "Window hack. It's that time of year again... As the temperature is dropping, condensation is more common in our homes."

She adds: "Applying a thin coat of washing up liquid to your windows with a dry microfibre cloth will create a barrier that avoids this from happening. This will help reduce mould and prevent damage from around your windows."

Claire doesn't stop there; she also advises: "However, there will still be moisture in the air. I recommend opening the windows every morning to circulate fresh air. Use dehumidifiers, and leaving your door open slightly overnight will also help."

She tells her followers to "top up" the washing up liquid on their windows "as required". Bargain hunters can find microfibre cloths at Ikea for just £1.50 for two, and Morrisons 'Savers' Washing Up Liquid for a mere 55p.

The tip proved popular among her audience, with one fan commenting: "Great tip, I've never heard of this before."

Others shared their positive experiences, saying: "I've done this many times, it really works," and another adding: "Works so well."

A fourth follower praised the advice, saying: "What a fab tip, I never knew this."

Despite the surge of positive reactions, there were sceptics who raised their concerns, with one detracting voice saying: "You do realise it doesn't just vanish? It needs to go to the next coldest place. Which will be your walls behind furniture. Enjoy the mould."

Claire hit back, confirming her original guidance: "Yes, I have mentioned this in the caption with extra tips!".
