Pioneering band Skunk Anansie will be rocking into Newcastle in the spring, having announced a tour that heralds a new era and new music.

The enduring band, which burst onto the London scene in the nineties with singer Skin heading up a multi-cultural mix of alternative, rock and punk influences, includes a date at NX Newcastle in its new 2025 spring tour with tickets for the April 11 gig going on sale this week. Skin said: "We are really excited to be getting back on tour, doing what we love the most which is playing live with fire in our belly."

The singer, known for her outspoken lyrics tackling social and political issues, added: "This tour will be a completely brand new production and we can’t wait to share it with the UK.” And the new tour - announced 30 years on from the band's 1994 debut - is set to mark a new era in its history with new music also on the horizon.

Skin, who has broken racial and gender barriers in rock, is also known for her 'unapologetic queer sexuality' and dramatic fashion. She has been a voice in support of equality and identity issues too as she led the band to worldwide success.

Hit albums include the debut Paranoid & Sunburnt; Stoosh; Post Orgasmic Chill and anniversary special 25LIVE@25 while among stand-out singles are Hedonism, Twisted (Everyday Hurts) and Weak. After headlining Glastonbury Festival in 1999, the band went on hiatus in the early 2000s then reformed in 2009 and have stayed the course since.
