Magazine editor's taxi 'hit by bullet' in Central London

Private Eye editor Ian Hislop was caught up in a shocking incident when his taxi was reportedly struck by a bullet.

The Have I Got News For You panellist was travelling in a black cab through central London at around 10am on Tuesday when the vehicle's rear window was allegedly hit by a bullet as it halted in traffic, according to The Guardian.

Fortunately, neither Hislop nor the taxi driver sustained any injuries. The reported shooting took place on Dean Street in Soho, not far from the offices of Private Eye, and led to road closures in the vicinity while police conducted their investigations.

Hislop, aged 64, is well-known for his long-standing role as team captain on the BBC's satirical quiz show since its inception in 1990 and has helmed Private Eye since 1986.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson relayed to The Guardian: "Police were called at 10.10am on Tuesday October 1 to a report of a firearms discharge on Dean Street, Westminster."

They added, "The driver of a London black taxi reported he was stationary in traffic when a shot was fired towards his vehicle, striking the window. There were no injuries. An investigation has been launched."

Hislop, Scotland Yard and Private Eye have been approached for comment.
