Firework displays on Bonfire Night in the North East - what's in store this November 5

by · ChronicleLive

Bonfire Night celebrations have lit up the region in recent days with events taking place across the region in the run-up to the big night.

Some of the North East's firework displays were under way as early as Friday while others dazzled crowds over the weekend, including biggies such as Gateshead's main event at Saltwell Park on Saturday night and North Tyneside's annual freebie at the coast on Sunday. Hosting events on the nearest weekend to Bonfire Night is commonplace and tends to suit many families but that can also leave many with nothing to do on November 5, meaning that Bonfire Night itself is a bit of a damp squib.

But there's good news, especially for those who might have missed out on attending any weekend display, as there are still fireworks set to light up the sky this Tuesday evening. Some venues planned two displays this year, with one taking at the weekend and another set for November 5, in order to to cover all bases and give people plenty of choice.

Here is a guide to what's still on offer this Bonfire Night. While they include ticketed displays, which may mean those who have not already booked may have left it too late, although there was still some availability on Tuesday morning and there is a free to enter option too. So, wrap up warm and prepare to enjoy some sparkle on a dull autumn night.

November 5 firework displays

The Big Blaze

Lintz Hall Farm, Newcastle, NE16 6AS

The Psycho Path team transformed its Halloween horror site for a friendly-family Bonfire Night celebration which follows on from a first fireworks event it held on November 2. This Tuesday it will be hosting Guy Fawkes Night special from 4pm-11pm, with a bonfire; 'massive fireworks display''; fairground rides; a fire and angle-grinding show; street food village and four bars plus a photo booth.

Most tickets are now sold out but this Tuesday morning there were still general admission tickets available for £12 plus £1.20 booking fee. Under-twos have free entry. See here.

Blue Flames Sporting Club

Whitley Park, Whitley Road, Benton, Newcastle, NE12 9SF, near Benton Metro Station

The sports club and leisure centre will be hosting its Annual Fireworks Display on the big night itself and added attractions will include fairground rides; children's characters; food stalls and three indoor bars. However, tickets - £8.50; £5.50 for children; or £25 for a family of two adults and two children - had to be bought in advance online or from its the main reception.

Gates open at 5.30pm and the display will be at 7pm. Organisers say local parking is difficult so they advise people to use public transport - the club is located just 200 metres from Benton Metro Station, so just a five minute walk, while Four Lane Ends station - a 15 minute walk or one Metro stop away - has parking facilities.

Segedunum Roman Fort

Buddle Street, Wallsend, NE28 6HR

The popular Fireworks at the Fort event will be making its dramatic return this Tuesday, lighting up the night sky over the River Tyne where Swan Hunter used to launch its ships. There will be a coffee van on-site and the museum shop will be selling refreshments.

Entry to the museum will be free from 4pm (although donations would be welcome) and there will be free family-friendly craft activities in the Roman Gallery from 4pm-6pm then fireworks from 6.30pm. For more about the event see here. Dogs are not allowed.

Hardwick Hall Hotel

Hardwick Hall Hotel, Sedgefield, TS21 2EH

The hotel also planned a double treat for its Bonfire Night celebrations and following a first Firework Extravaganza on Sunday, another takes placed this Tuesday with family entertainment and VIP ticket options. There is to be a 'huge' bonfire alongside the fireworks plus fairground rides and street food vans.

Ticket availability was showing as variable on Tuesday morning so keep an eye out here. Gates will open at 5pm with the event ending around 8.30pm.
