Liam Payne was all set to judge a new Netflix singing competition, with him landing a role on the high profile show just months before his death at the age of just 31.

People all around the world reacted with shock and sadness when it was confirmed that singer and One Direction star Liam had died at a hotel in Argentina's capital of Buenos Aires, having fallen from a third floor room onto an internal patio below. News broke online about Liam's death around 10.30pm UK time, as tributes quickly flooded in for Liam, who first shot to fame on The X Factor in 2008, before he auditioned for the show for a second time two years later and ended up in One Direction, the most successful act ever to emerge from it.

After the group went their separate ways in 2016, Liam went solo, releasing his debut album LP1 in 2019 and having hits with songs like For You, Familiar and Strip That Down, with him being nominated for Brits in his own right, after 1D's success at the annual event.

And, in August it was announced that Liam had been signed up to judge new Netflix singing competition Building The Band. The show, hosted by Backstreet Boys' AJ McLean was due to contestants will find their perfect bandmates based on compatibility, connection, and, most importantly, merit.

Liam was set to be joined on the panel by Nicole Scherzinger, the Pussycat Dolls who still takes responsibility for putting One Direction together, during her stint as an X Factor guest judge in 2010 and Kelly Rowland, herself an X Factor judge in 2011, the year Little Mix made history as the first group to win the show.
