King Charles 'greatly saddened' by sudden death of former SNP leader Alex Salmond

The Alba leader died on Saturday afternoon from a suspected heart attack during a trip to North Macedonia

King Charles has expressed his deep sorrow upon receiving the news of Alex Salmond's untimely passing at 69.

The former SNP First Minister and leader of the Alba Party died unexpectedly on Saturday afternoon, believed to be from a heart attack while visiting North Macedonia.

A statement released by Buckingham Palace conveyed the King's feelings: "My wife and I are greatly saddened to hear of the sudden death of Alex Salmond."

He further honoured Salmond's commitment by adding, "His devotion to Scotland drove his decades of public service."

The King rounded off his message with compassion, stating, "We extend our deep condolences to his family and loved ones at this time."
