The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has strongly condemned Alex Ikwechegh, a member of the Nigerian House of Representatives for Aba North and South, after a viral video allegedly showed him assaulting and threatening a Bolt driver in Abuja.

The Eagle Online reports that the Reps member, Alex Ikwechegh, on Sunday, assaulted an e-hailing (Bolt) driver who went to deliver a package to him.

The distressed driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, in a viral video filmed what transpired between them in Ikwechegh’s residence in Maitama, Abuja.

The video has sparked widespread condemnation on social media, with many calling for accountability and a review of officials’ conduct.

In the video, the visibly angered Reps member representing Aba North & South Federal Constituency (APGA) repeatedly slapped and insulted the driver for telling him to come out and get the snail the driver was meant to deliver to him

Ikwechegh insisted that the request was disrespectful given his social status while threatening to make the driver “disappear” without facing any consequences.

“Do you know where you are? Do you know who I am?” Ikwechegh is heard saying, with the driver responding, “I don’t want to know, just pay me and let me go.”

As the exchange escalated, the driver asserted his right to be paid, stating, “I did a job for you, and you have to pay me, sir.”

In response, the lawmaker reportedly refused payment, accusing the driver of “great disrespect” and allegedly calling him “very, very stupid.”

Ikwechegh also made an alarming threat, reportedly saying, “I can make this man disappear in the whole of Nigeria and nothing would happen.”

Reacting to the incident, APGA, in a statement on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, expressed its commitment to human rights and announced a formal investigation into Ikwechegh’s conduct.

The statement reads, “The attention of our great party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, has been drawn to a viral video of alleged assault meted out to a citizen by the Honourable member representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency, Alex Ikwechegh.

“As a political party founded on respect for human rights, we roundly condemn the action of our said member.”

“In APGA, we are our Brother’s and Sister’s keeper, and it cannot be any other way,” the statement added.

The party announced plans to establish a disciplinary committee to investigate the incident, assuring that “appropriate sanctions shall be meted out if he is found wanting.”

The party’s decisive response reflects its commitment to holding public officials accountable and upholding the ideals of dignity and respect espoused by APGA’s founding leaders.
