Controversial social media critic, Martin Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan on Monday appeared before the House of Representatives Joint Committee on the investigation of disturbing allegations of corruption against the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, and the Nigerian Correctional Services, NCoS.

VeryDarkMan honoured the Reps summon in company of his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju.

Also before the Committee is Bobrisky’s lawyer, Averosoghene Omuvwie, representatives of the EFCC, and Correctional Services.

Meanwhile, Nigerian crossdresser and social media personality, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, was absent.

The House of Representatives had summoned EFCC Chairman, Nigerian Correctional Service Comptroller General, Bobrisky, VeryDarkMan and all officers involved in the prosecution of Bobrisky when he was charged with abuse of naira.

However, when invited to talk, VeryDarkMan fumed over the absence of Bobrisky at the ongoing probe panel set up by the House of Representatives joint Committee saying: “Today, I will not say anything because an invitation was given out to me and Bobrisky. But he is not here.

“I don’t see why I will be here and he is not. So I won’t say anything, but my lawyer will.”

The Eagle Online reported that the House of Representatives resolved to investigate allegations of bribery against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in the case of money laundering charges against Bobrisky.

The resolution was sequel to a motion by Rep. Patrick Umoh (APC-Akwa Ibom) at the plenary of the House of Representatives on Thursday.

Moving the motion, Umoh said the Nigerian Correctional Service was also fingered in the disturbing allegation.

He said the allegation, which emanated from Martins Otse, a social media influencer known as VeryDarkMan, was widely circulated.

The lawmaker said it was alleged that the EFCC dropped money laundering charges against Bobrisky upon collection of the sum N15 million.

He said: “The publication alleged that the Iris Okuneye, upon conviction for abuse and defacing of the Naira, by the court did not serve his time at the Nigeria Correctional Service, but was lodged outside the confines of the service.

“The House is disturbed by the damning allegations against Nigeria’s critical law enforcement agencies, the EFCC and the NCS, established by this hallowed chamber to fight corruption and incarcerate persons convicted of crime for correctional purposes.

“Worried about the negative image and portrayal of Nigeria as a corrupt nation which Nigeria still struggle to redeem itself from such perception, a committee comprising of persons of unquestionable integrity to immediately probe the allegation be set up to investigate this allegations.”

In his ruling, the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abass, said that an Ad hoc Committee be set up to investigate the allegations and report back within three legislative weeks.
