Squid Game season 2 release date finally confirmed in new trailer
by Poppy Atkinson Gibson · Mail OnlineThe release date for Squid Game season two has finally been released as Netflix dropped a grisly new trailer.
Nearly three years after Squid Game took the world by storm, the streaming giant has revealed the show will return in time for the festive period.
And alongside the release date, a new trailer has dropped which will leave fans on the edge of their seat.
The latest season of the hit show will be released globally on Boxing Day, Netflix has announced.
And no doubt the trailer has intrigued fans.
The clip shows a new group of recruits, with a guard telling extending a 'heartfelt welcome' before panning to a familiar face - Gi-hun, who has returned as Player 456.
The trailer then shows one of the original challenges and Gi-hun taking control and trying to guide the fellow competitors through the trials.
But trouble soon erupts as fellow players accuse him of working for the games master, forcing him to reveal he has played before.
And, as the guards watch on, the mastermind behind Squid Game watches over the players, who panic and fight among themselves.
The trailer then shows a series of gruesome murders, brawls, gun fights and terrifying games, ending with Gi-hun sweaty and panting in the dark before the trailer reveals that the second series will premiere on December 26.
A synopsis of season two revealed: 'Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 gave up going to the States and comes back with a new resolution in his mind. Gi-hun once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another life-or-death game with new participants gathered to win the prize of 45.6 billion won.'
Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who made history at the 74th Primetime Emmys as the first Asian to win Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, returns to the series as director, writer, and producer.
Lee Byung-hun and Wi Ha-jun also are returning to reprise their roles from the original series.
