REVEALED: Shocking celebrity face transformations due to weight loss

by · Mail Online

When a celebrity loses a lot of weight in a short amount of time, social media often discusses the changes to their physique.

But in some cases, what's more dramatic than their body transformations are the impacts that the weight loss has on their faces.

Take Matthew McConaughey, for example. The actor recently stepped out and left his longtime fans shocked over how 'different' and 'thin' his face looked.

Immediately, X, formerly known as Twitter, erupted with rumors that he was using one of the popular weight-loss jabs, after people claimed that his features had changed immensely in a short amount of time.

And he's not the only one. Just weeks earlier, pro wrestler Dave Bautista sparked concern when he walked the red carpet and looked incredibly slimmed down in not only his body, but also his face.

And he's not the only one. Take a look back at all the celebrities whose facial features have changed thanks to dramatic weight loss. Scott Disick is seen left in 2017 and right in March

Earlier this year, reality TV star Scott Disick made headlines when he was photographed leaving a restaurant looking extremely gaunt.

He had sunken cheeks and hollow eyes, and people on the web feared his thin appearance was a result of an undisclosed illness or drug use.

Afterwards, however, a source told DailyMail.com that it was a result of him going 'too far' with the weight-loss aid Ozempic.

Diabetes medication Ozempic, and similar drugs like Wegoyvy and Mounjaro, have become immensely popular in Hollywood recently.

After it was revealed that they could help people slim down, a slew of celebrities have confessed to using the drug.

The medication, which is taken via injection once a week, alters the brain's appetite regulation, so that people feel full despite eating less; as a result, users don't eat as much and lose weight - but not just belly fat.

It can also remove fat from the face, often making many people look gaunt, a phenomenon that has become known as 'Ozempic face.'

Whether it was because they were taking a weight loss aid or not, numerous stars have gone through dramatic face transformations in recent years - including David Harbour, Randy Jackson, Elon Musk, Kelly Clarkson, Oprah, Simon CowellRebel WilsonTracy Morgan, Whoopi Goldberg, and Sharon Osbourne.

Here's a look back at all the celebrities whose facial features have changed thanks to dramatic weight loss, and what we know about how each of them slimmed down.

Matthew McConaughey

Social media was flooded with posts about how 'different' and 'thin' his face looked, as many users wondered if he had taken the weight loss drug Ozempic. He's seen at the event

When Matthew, 54, stepped out at the Kering Foundation's Caring for Women Gala dinner last week, many of his longtime fans were left shocked over his appearance.

Social media was flooded with posts about how 'different' and 'thin' his face looked, and many users wondered if he had taken the weight loss drug Ozempic.

Matthew previously made headlines in 2014, when he showed off his dramatic weight loss in the film Dallas Buyers Club (seen). Soon after, however, he quickly put the weight back on

Afterwards, a plastic surgeon weighed in on the actor's new look to DailyMail.com, and he agreed that his gaunt features were likely due to weight loss, and not cosmetic enhancements.

'When someone loses significant weight, the reduction in facial fat can make their features appear more defined and prominent, including the nose,' Reza Nassab, a consultant plastic, and reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon from the UK, told DailyMail.com.

'This natural shift in appearance due to weight loss can often lead people to assume cosmetic procedures have taken place but in this case, the change in his face could easily be because of his weight loss.'

Matthew previously made headlines in 2014, when he showed off his dramatic weight loss in the film Dallas Buyers Club.

Afterwards, he told Radio Times that he ate only egg whites and a piece of chicken, as well as a Diet Coke, every day in order to slim down to a tiny 133 pounds for his role in the flick.

Soon after, however, he quickly put the weight back on.

Dave Bautista

Dave Butista, 55, made an appearance at the Toronto Film Festival this month, and he too caused quite the stir online thanks to a new look. He's seen left in 2022 and right at the event
He explained in an interview with YouTube Chris Van Vliet that he was down to 240lbs, and explained that he had lost the weight for his role in the new film The Killer's Game

Actor and professional wrestler Dave, 55, made an appearance at the Toronto Film Festival premiere of The Last Showgirl earlier this month, and he too caused quite the stir online thanks to a new look.

Famed for his hulking, muscular physique, Dave looked incredibly slimmed down as he hit the red carpet. Not only did his body look much leaner, but so did his face.

He explained in an interview with YouTube Chris Van Vliet that he lost the weight for his role in the new film The Killer's Game, adding, 'This is probably the lightest I've been since I was 19 years old.'

The star noted that while he weighed about 290lbs during 'most of his wrestling career,' he had to gain weight for the 2023 M. Night Shyamalan film Knock at the Cabin.

He said he had only a short period of time to put on the pounds and did so by indulging in French fries and pancakes, but once shooting was over, he was ready to trim down.

'I got really big for a role and it was uncomfortably big… I got really big. I was like around 315lbs and I put the weight on really fast,' he shared.

He credited ju-jitsu with helping him to slim down, and revealed he now weighed only 240lbs.

He joked that he was 'basically killing himself' because he was 'training so hard.'

He also said he used intermittent fasting and 'restricted' his calorie intake to around 2,500 calories a day.

But Dave addressed people who were concerned about his health amid the weight loss, stating, 'I'm not starving or anything.'

'People say, "God, you're skinny,"' he continued. 'I've even seen online, some people worried about my health.

'People have seen me so much bigger over the years that they think I'm like anorexic, but I'm still just a large human being next to your typical actor. It looks like a gorilla and it's distracting.'

David Harbour

Stranger Things actor David Harbour, 49, previously revealed that he shed a whopping 75lbs for the fourth season of the Netflix show. He's seen left in 2017 and right in 2022
The actor told GQ that he used intermittent fasting and that his diet was mostly salads and Greek yogurt. He also credited resistance work, cardio, and Pilates. He's seen in July

Stranger Things actor David, 49, previously revealed that he shed a whopping 75lbs for the fourth season of the Netflix show.

In an Instagram post, he revealed that he worked with a trainer for eight months to 'make the transformation' and then for 'another year' to keep the weight off after production got shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The actor told GQ that he used intermittent fasting and that his diet consisted of mostly salads and Greek yogurt.

He also credited resistance work, cardio, and Pilates.

'I was hungry a lot of the time,' he admitted. 'In general I think it's calorie intake, calorie outtake.

'We would do six-hour windows and two days a week I would do 24-hour fasts because I started to get more and more intense.

'I would do a mixture of resistance work and cardio. The cardio was a lot of running but with very low intensity over an extended period of time, around 60 to 90 minutes at a heart rate of about 165.

'I did a lot of Pilates too, and some weight training. What I was looking for was that lean look... the Pilates really helped with that lean thing, like strengthening, lengthening, and stretching the muscle a lot.'

Randy Jackson

Randy Jackson, now 68, revealed that during the height of his fame, his weight had soared to 350lbs, but he got gastric bypass surgery in 2003. He's seen left in 2007 and right in 2023

Last year, many became concerned about Randy's health after new images emerged in which his faced looked extremely thin.

He told People in 2022 that he lost 114lbs from the surgery, and has kept it off by 'eating healthy, avoiding crash diets and prioritizing his gut health.' He's seen in February

In his 2008 memoir, Body with Soul, Randy, now 68, revealed that during the height of his fame, his weight had soared to 350lbs.

He said he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2003, which resulted in him deciding to get a gastric bypass surgery.

'It's a great jump starter. You lose a bunch of weight really fast, but maintaining is another thing,' he told People in 2022 about keep the weight off after the surgery.

'You get there and your mind tells you, "OK, phew. I'm here now. I can start to party and bring out the cheesecake."'

At the time, he said he had lost 114lbs from the surgery, and kept it off by 'eating healthy, avoiding crash diets and prioritizing his gut health.'

'I hate the word diet. I don't use that anymore. Anybody that's lost weight, you lose it and then you start eating and drinking more and it all starts coming back,' the former American Idol judge added.

'That's what started happening to me. I was like, "No, I'm not going to spend my life going through this."'

Elon Musk

In November 2022, billionaire Tesla founder Elon Musk, 53, took to X, formerly Twitter, to boast to his millions of followers that he had dropped 30lbs. He's seen left in 2018 and right in April

In recent years, billionaire Tesla founder Elon's face and physique have become noticeably thinner.

And in November 2022, the mogul, now 53, took to X to boast to his millions of followers that he had dropped 30lbs - and revealed that he was using weight loss injections.

When asked what his secret was to looking so 'fit, ripped, healthy,' he replied: 'Fasting, Ozempic/Wegovy, and no tasty food near me.'

He has since professed on the platform that he 'eats a donut every morning' and 'almost never' goes to the gym.

'I almost never work out, except for picking up my kids and throwing them in the air,' he tweeted in 2023.

Kelly Clarkson

Many people speculated that Kelly Clarkson, 42, was using weight loss injections after they noticed she had slimmed down in recent years. She's seen left in 2017 and right this month
She confessed in May 2024 that she was indeed using a weight loss drug; she insisted she didn't use Ozempic, but did not reveal which drug she used instead. She's seen in June

Many people began to speculate that Kelly, 42, was using weight loss injections like Ozempic or Wegovy after they noticed she had slimmed down immensely in recent years.

While initially, the singer insisted her transformation was the result of 'walking' more and cutting back on carbs, she confessed in May 2024 that she was indeed using a weight loss drug.

She said doctors prescribed it to her after a blood test. She also insisted she wasn't using Ozempic, but did not reveal which drug she used instead.

'Mine is a different one than people assume, but I ended up having to do that too,' the Because of You songstress said during an appearance on Whoopi Goldberg's show. 'Everybody thinks it's Ozempic, it's not - it's something else.

'My doctor chased me for like two years. And I was like, "No, I'm afraid of it. I already have thyroid problems." I was afraid.'

Kelly said the medication she was taking was 'something that aids in helping break down the sugar,' as her 'body doesn't do it right.'

The American Idol winner also revealed that she weighed 203lbs at her heaviest, but admitted that for a long time, she 'didn't see' herself as overweight.

'I didn't see it... But all of a sudden, I was like "Who the f**k is that?" It's a weird thing... I never saw that, I was never insecure about it - I just did not see that,' Kelly said.

Oprah

Throughout her career, Oprah, 70, has not shied away from discussing her rollercoaster-ride weight loss journey with the public. She's seen left in 2010 and right in March

Throughout her impressive, decades-long career, Oprah, 70, has not shied away from discussing her rollercoaster-ride weight loss journey with the public.

The self-confessed yo-yo dieter reached her heaviest - 237 pounds - in the early 1990s, and confessed to feeling 'so ashamed' to have 'joined the ranks of the perpetually obese' that she said she could hardly look people in the eye.

But after connecting with a personal trainer at a spa in Colorado, he helped inspire her to turn things around.

In December 2023, she revealed that she was using one of the weight-loss aids, but didn't specify which one. She's seen in January

For years after that, Oprah's weight fluctuated. With the help of her new trainer, it dropped down to 160 pounds by 2006, but within two years after that, it was back up to 200 pounds.

However in recent months, the acclaimed talk show host has looked thinner than ever - in both her face and her body - and has loved to flaunt her stunning figure at red carpet events.

Like with Kelly, many social media users began to suspect she was using Ozempic or Wegovy, but Oprah denied the rumors, stating that she viewed the drugs as an 'easy way out.'

However, in December 2023, she confessed that she was using one of the weight-loss aids, but didn't specify which one.

She told People at the time, 'I now use it as I feel I need it, as a tool to manage not yo-yoing.

'The fact that there's a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for.

'I'm absolutely done with the shaming from other people and particularly myself.'

At the time, she said she was seven pounds away from her goal weight of 160lbs, but added that 'it was not about the number.'

Simon Cowell

Social media has been discussing the changes in Simon Cowell's face for years now, as many have branded him as 'unrecognizable.' He's seen left in 2018 and right in 2022

Social media has been discussing the changes in Simon's face for years now.

The star, now 64, was branded as 'unrecognizable' after he uploaded a video encouraging people to audition for Britain's Got Talent in December 2022.

'What happened to his face?' one person asked in the comment section of the video, while another said, 'Holy moly, I nearly didn't recognize him.'

It was said that the AGT judge overhauled his lifestyle after he was involved in a horrific electric bike crash in 2020 that resulted in him breaking his back.

He started walking 40 miles per week after he recovered, and rearranged his work schedule so he could prioritize his sleep, ultimately losing 20lbs.

While some have speculated his different look was the result of plastic surgery, he insisted in April 2023 that he never had a facelift.

'I think it's hysterical. I mean, it just makes me laugh. I haven't had a facelift or anything,' he told The Mirror.

'I've had a bit of Botox or whatever, but nothing drastic. So when I hear about this stuff, honestly it does make me laugh.'

Rebel Wilson, 44, said she was encouraged to stay big in the early years of her career, but in 2020, she underwent a massive transformation. She's seen left in 2013 and right this month
The actress also confirmed to The Sunday Times that she tried using Ozempic during her weight loss journey. She's seen earlier this month

Rebel, 44, previously revealed that she was encouraged to stay big in the early years of her career after she earned a reputation for being a 'funny fat girl.'

She claimed in her memoir that her Pitch Perfect contract said she wasn't allowed to lose weight, and that her agents convinced her not to slim down in the years that followed.

But in 2020, everything changed after a fertility doctor told she would have a better chance of getting pregnant if she were 'healthier.'

But determined to become a mother, Rebel hired a trainer and exercised for two hours every day - an hour 'focused on strength and conditioning' and an hour 'on her own' doing cardio, per her tome.

The actress also confirmed to The Sunday Times while discussing the book that she tried using Ozempic during her weight loss journey.

'Someone like me could have a bottomless appetite for sweets, so I think those drugs can be good,' she said.

She ultimately shed 80lbs, but she admitted in her book that it felt like people have talked more about her transformation than her career.

'Out of all the things I've achieved in my life, losing weight seems to garner the most attention,' she said.

Scott, 41, shocked fans when he was seen leaving a restaurant in West Hollywood in March and looked extremely gaunt

He had sunken cheeks and hollow eyes, and immediately social media users feared his thin appearance was a result of an undisclosed illness or drug use.

Weeks later, an insider told DailyMail.com that the reality star had turned to a nutritionist to help tackle his fluctuating weight. He's seen in February

But sources told DailyMail.com that Kourtney Kardashian's ex was using Ozempic in a desperate bid to get rid of his 'dad bod.'

'He is not ill and isn't doing hardcore drugs,' an insider said. 'Kourtney would never allow Scott to spend so much time with their kids if he was in the throes of an addiction.

'Scott started taking Ozempic because he had serious issues with his weight gain. This time last year he saw himself as fat.

'He had gained a lot of weight and couldn't stand seeing himself in video footage that aired in the past couple of months. He would go to great lengths to cover it up.

'Scott wanted the easy way out of his dad bod. But now it has clearly gone too far and, of course, the family is worried about him.'

Weeks later, a separate insider told DailyMail.com that the reality star had turned to a nutritionist to help tackle his fluctuating weight.

'Scott recognized that he needed to stop taking Ozempic after seeing the photos of himself and the public outcry over his weight loss,' they dished.

'He thought he looked good because he was thinner again – not realizing that this was not healthy.

'He is now working with a nutritionist to get back on track and not balloon up to the size he was.'

Many people noticed that comedian and actor Tracy, 55, had slimmed down in recent years.

When asked about his weight loss last year during an appearance on the Today show, he confessed to taking Ozempic.

Afterwards, however, he left viewers scratching their heads when he said on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that he had actually 'gained 40 pounds' while taking the weight-loss aid.

'I've learned to out-eat Ozempic. I out-ate Ozempic. I've gained 40lbs,' said the star.

Afterwards, however, he said his comments were just a 'joke' and branded the drug as 'great.'

'That was just a joke,' he told E! News. 'Ozempic did great by me and I was glad to use it.'

Whoopi Goldberg

Whoopi said her weight got so severe that she 'couldn't breathe,' and that Mounjaro was 'the only way' the doctors could 'jumpstart [her] system'

In March, Whoopi, 68, revealed that she used weight-loss drug Mounjaro in 2021 while filming the movie Till - after she said she unsuccessfully tried a number of other methods to try to slim down.

She told Page Six that it not only helped her shed pounds, but it also improved her overall health.

The star explained that she started taking steroids following back surgery, which messed up her 'metabolism' and led to her weight soaring to 300lbs in 2021.

She said it got so severe that she 'couldn't breathe,' and that Mounjaro was 'the only way' the doctors could 'jumpstart [her] system.'

'It was a lot of weight for me to be carrying, and I didn't realize how much weight I was carrying,' she said.

'I saw myself every day, and it didn't look strange to me, but then I couldn't breathe. I was 300lbs. I was like, "Oh, please, God, make this work."'

Sharon Osbourne

In January, Sharon Osbourne, 71, admitted that she wanted to 'put on another 10lbs' after becoming 'too gaunt' thanks to Ozempic. She's seen left in 2017 and right in June

In January, Sharon, 71, admitted that she wanted to 'put on another 10lbs' after becoming 'too gaunt' thanks to Ozempic.

She said she lost 42lbs on the drug, telling Loos Women, 'The injections that I was on worked and just seems now I can't put anything on.

'I lost over 40lbs, If I could I would put back another 10.'

She also discussed her weight loss journey with DailyMail.com, and she explained that her 'weakness has always been food.'

'When I'm happy, I eat. When I'm sad, I eat. I was a pig. At my heaviest, I weighed 225lbs,' she revealed. 'I weighed more than my husband [Ozzy Osbourne].'

In the 1990s, she said she underwent an operation that 'banded' her stomach, which resulted in her losing 'almost half her body weight.'

'The result was that I had flesh hanging everywhere. My breasts were flat and sagging,' she said.

Sharon noted that the dramatic weight loss had impacted her face, but she said she had no plans to get any more cosmetic procedures. She's seen in June

She then got a series of 'cosmetic procedures,' including a facelift, liposuction, and a breast lip.

'Last December, I resorted to injecting myself with Ozempic, a semaglutide that fools the brain into thinking you're not hungry. I lost 42lbs, but it was too much,' she added.

'Now, I weigh just over [98lbs]. I need to put on 10lbs, but however much I eat, I stay the same weight.'

Sharon noted that the dramatic weight loss had impacted her face, but she said she had no plans to get any more cosmetic procedures.

'I've had enough. I've given up on all interventions. I couldn't have much more facial surgery - there's not that much skin left to stretch, pull or cut. And I won't have any more fillers or Botox,' she stated.

'I don't think I'll ever be happy with the way I look. But I'm now satisfied. It's taken years for me to say this but I've learned my lesson. This is me. It's finally time to leave well alone.'
