Brits mock Saturday Night Live's 'comedy' skit about Oasis

by · Mail Online

Brits have mocked a Saturday Night Live comedy skit about Oasis going on tour after a combination of poor accents and lack of funny jokes failed to hit the mark.

Viewers didn't hold back as they mercilessly tore into last night's episode which saw actors attempt to parody the notoriously rocky relationship between the famous popstar brothers, Liam and Noel Gallagher.

Despite the best efforts of James Austin Johnson, who played Noel, and Sarah Sherman, as Liam, their jokes appeared to fall on the deaf ears of the famously tough British crowd - as one person wrote they'd 'had funnier headaches'.

The pair, donning sunglasses and dressed in black jackets, chatted with show host Colin Jost and promised him they won't break up again before their highly anticipated 2025 world tour comes to pass.

'I'm cool if he's cool,' their version of Noel told the host, responding to the question whether they'd still be 'cool' a year from now.

'I'm cool, I'm cool, I'm cooler than you are,' replied Sarah Sherman's Liam. Austin Johnson then burst into a rendition of hit song Wonderwall, singing: 'I said maybe, if Liam doesn't act like a baby.'

As the sketch continued, the pair broke into a round of cringeworthy teasing, calling each other 'babies' and blowing raspberries at each other.

The flop has caused a stir on social media with one person going as far as to say it was the 'death of comedy' and Liam Gallagher himself savagely asking: 'Are they meant to be comedians?'

One X user commented: 'A strong shout for the worst 3 mins of 'comedy' in TV history,' and someone else agreed saying: 'I love large parts of SNL and its history, but this is awful. The accents alone constitute a crime against humanity.'

A third person wrote: 'This is meant to be comedy? I've had funnier headaches. Fair dos to anyone who made it to the end,' while a fourth ranted: 'Here it is. It's official. This is it. The death of comedy.'

Others said the skit reminded them of Dick van Dyke's famously questionable English accent in Mary Poppins with one saying: 'I'd like to formally apologise to Dick Van Dyke. His accent was BAFTA worthy compared to this'.

Viewers took to Twitter to share scathing reviews of the show

'I saw Dick van Dyke was trending and I thought the worst - thank goodness it is only linked to these two taking his long standing 'Worst British Accent' award away,' added another.

It comes as in August of this year Noel and Liam Gallagher sensationally confirmed that Oasis - one of the biggest bands in British music history - have reformed for a mammoth tour around the UK and Ireland.

After weeks of growing speculation about a comeback, the Manchester brothers finally put their 15-year feud on ice to announce they will be performing together again, 34 years after their first gig.

The pair confirmed a string of gigs - which will not be televised - in Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin for next summer.

They will also perform two concerts Down Under with tickets slated to go on sale on Tuesday.

Following the announcement some Oasis fans were left devastated after all tickets for the highly-anticipated gigs sold out within hours amid a frenzy which was plagued by eight-hour queues, technical issues and shocking price hikes.

Tickets for the two dates - August 16 and 17 - sold out within minutes, with fans desperately pleading with Oasis to add extra performances to the roster.
